BREANA HEBERT
DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Where did you grow up?
I am from a small town in Michigan called Potterville. My senior class had 64 students!

What is your favorite song, artist, and/or musical memory?
My favorite musical memory is from this past February when I played flute in the pit orchestra for Opera House Theatre Company’s production of Sound of Music.

Favorite meal or restaurant?
My go to is steak and mashed potatoes.

Favorite beverage?
We recently acquired a Soda Stream... flavored sparkling water is a favorite at the moment ??

What is your favorite vacation?
Last year my husband and I had a destination wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico with 44 of our friends and family members. Seven days with our closest people was an awesome vacation - and a perfect wedding!

You’re stuck on a desert island… What Book, Music/Album/Artist and/or Movie do you want with you?
I would bring with me the Harry Potter books and movies. I would also bring my music playlist named “Morning Coffee”. It includes my favorite composer Debussy, as well as artists like Alanis Morissette, Lady Gaga, Snarky Puppy and Aretha Franklin.

What’s your pet situation?
We have two adorable cats named Yoyo and Weasley. Yoyo is short for Johann Sebastian Bach (Yoyo is a girl), and Weasley was named after Ronald Weasley from Harry Potter. Yes, Weasley is a “ginger” and is just as clumsy as the character from the book series. ?

What do you want people to know about the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra?
The WSO is engrained in our community and has been for 48 years! Our musicians live and work here and we have seven education programs. It’s a great nonprofit to work for!

How are you keeping yourself occupied while being at home all day?
While working from home, I like to take breaks and go outside to soak up some sun or go for a walk. I’m also in the 2020 WILMA Leadership Institute and am Chairman for our local Association of Fundraising Professionals Cape Fear Chapter's 2020 National Philanthropy Day Awards Breakfast (scheduled for November), so Zoom meetings are essential and keep me engaged.

Any words of wisdom to help others through this?
Be kind to yourself. Everyone’s “quarantine” is different. If you want to take a nap, then do it! But most importantly, go outside often and take a deep breath.

How would you describe your role at the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra?
I am the Development Director. My duties include implementing our fundraising campaigns, special events, and corporate sponsorship and grant writing programs. I also update our website, social media and e-newsletters.

How long have you been with the WSO?
Almost two years.

What brought you to the WSO?
While living in Oklahoma City for a few years was a wonderful time in our lives, my husband and I were ready to find a forever home that was surrounded by water, tall trees, and great mountain biking trails. With friends and family in the area, we looked to North Carolina. It has been my dream to work for an orchestra and I am incredibly grateful that I found the WSO. Wilmington’s local arts community is what brought us to this wonderful city and we do not take it for granted.
