Know Before You Go

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Run Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes Including a 15 minute intermission

  • This is the Chicago premiere of the 2021Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by Katori Hall.
Hall is writer of the acclaimed play The Mountaintop about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Broadway musical Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, and the hit TV show P-Valley.

  • The Hot Wing King follows a group of Black queer male friends as they prep their secret recipe for the annual Hot Wing Festival in Memphis, Tennessee. Bawdy jokes and banter fly freely and matters of love and loyalty simmer alongside the sauce.

  •  These close friends and hot wing enthusiasts, proudly calling themselves the New Wing Order, speak to each other with a regional specificity and colloquial familiarity, expertly crafted by the Memphis-raised playwright as a linguistic love letter to her hometown.

  • This production includes onstage cooking including the use of some real ingredients and steam.

Additional information on the content of the play follows and may contain spoilers.

  • Contains coarse language, uses of the n-word as an expression of affection among Black friends, brief uses of slurs and ableist language, and references to offstage violence and death.

  • Please note that late seating and re-entry is at the discretion of house management and is not guaranteed.

This is a reserved seat venue. Doors to the performance space will open approximately 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the performance.
