Roald Dahl was born in Wales, United Kingdom, in 1916. He became a writer after suffering “a monumental bash on the head” sustained as a pilot in World War II. His classic stories for children include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Witches and, of course, Matilda.
