Name: Kofi Agyepong

Age: 17

School: Hirschi High School Grade: 12th

Instrument: Violin

How long have you been playing your instrument? 12 years

Who was your mentor? Wayne Bennett

What do you like about playing your instrument?

I love the violin’s ability to create a wide range of timbres and sounds depending on how the bow is used.

How long have you played in YSO? 8 years

What is your favorite thing about YSO?

YSO is my only opportunity to play with a full-scale symphony, so I enjoy hearing how the music we play takes advantage of the full range of instruments.

What are your favorite types of music?

In no particular order: R&B, rap, classical, jazz, and (some) rock.

What is your favorite musical piece and/or your favorite composer?

Brahms is my favorite composer, but Dvořák’s New World Symphony is my favorite piece.

What are your future career aspirations?

I want to become a computer hardware engineer, hopefully helping to develop the newest technologies.

When did your musical interests begin and what were they?

By the time I was a toddler, my older sister was playing violin, so I’ve always been interested in music. At first, it was classical, but my brother introduced me to more popular music later on.

What clubs/organizations (in and out of school) do you belong to?

I’m the president of my school’s interact club and also participate in the math, science, and ready writing teams.

Anything else that you want to share (what question do you wish I had asked that I have not)?

I’d like to give a word of thanks to my violin teacher, Gina Menden, for all her help over the years.  I’m extremely grateful for the chance to receive instruction from a WFSO member, as well as the opportunity to perform. Hopefully, my performance does this opportunity justice. Speaking of, I’d better go practice.
