Bulla’s masterful rendition of the music of the Bond series begins with the iconic Bond theme, composed by Monty Norman in 1962. The genius is in the motivic details: the rising and falling ostinato, initial melody, the four-note fanfare pattern, as well as the rhythmic impact fragment are all capable of sustaining a movie’s action individually and in combination.
Included in this compilation are some of the great songs from the past sixty years of bond films. Goldfinger, with its 60s-style jazz fusion; Carly Simon’s beautiful “Nobody Does It Better” from The Spy Who Loved Me, a film that saved the Bond series while another female lead singer, Adele, had a monster hit with 2012’s Skyfall. The work ends with 1973’s Live and Let Die, written by Paul and Linda McCartney, performed by Wings.
