Midnight Rain
Susan Day

Midnight Rain composed by Susan Day introduces the dark rich sounds of a minor key to set the mood of a dark midnight rain. The image of rain is set by the pizzicato in the cello section; all sections of the orchestra have the opportunity to play the melodic line which reminds us of water bouncing playfully off the ground, house, or cars.

Susan Day’s award-winning orchestras from Colorado were selected seven times to play at national conventions. In 2000, she received the “Outstanding String Teacher of the Year” award. Day was inducted into the CMEA hall of fame in 2008. In addition to teaching, she is a composer, arranger, clinician, guest conductor, adjudicator, and violinist with the Arapahoe Philharmonic. She has published 30 educational works. She has retired but remains active in the music community.
