Lucas Hnath's play The Thin Place premiered at Actors Theatre of Lousiville, which created a sensation in its sold-out NYC debut at Playwrights Horizon. Hnath is an American playwright who won the 2016 Obie Award for excellence in playwriting for his plays Red Speedo and The Christians. Hnath grew up in Orlando and moved to New York City in 1997 to study pre-med, and then changed to dramatic writing at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, earning a BFA and an MFA. He now teaches at New York University, and is a resident playwright at New Dramatists. He made his Broadway debut when his play A Dolls House, Part 2 premiered on Broadway starring Laurie Metcalf. He was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play and Laurie Metcalf won the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play. His plays Hillary and Clinton, and Dana H followed on Broadway. His plays have been produced at such prestigious theaters as New York Theatre Workshop, The Vineyard, Playwrights Horizons, Soho Rep, Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Goodman, Center Theatre Group, Victory Gardens, and South Coast Repertory. His awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Play, the Steinberg Playwright Award, and a Lucille Lortel Award.
