Multidisciplinary Artist, Luther Hezekiah Lewis III is a native of Evansville, Indiana (USA), born August 13, 1986. As a Tenor vocalist, Luther has appeared in leading, supporting and chorus roles in top Opera houses in the U.S. and abroad such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera and Opera de Montreal. He is a current member of the quartet Opera-Crossover group Vox Fortura which appeared on the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2018 and performs all over the globe. Luther has appeared in the role of Sportin’ Life in New York Harlem Productions’ tour of Porgy and Bess in Austria, France, Germany, Israel and the Netherlands. Luther has also performed as a principal artist and chorus member with Cincinnati Opera being featured on several concerts of Opera Goes to Church as well as performing supporting roles in Porgy and Bess, Der Rosenkavalier and I Pagliacci. While in Cincinnati, Luther appeared with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 World Choir Games as well as the first annual Lumenocity, an outdoor concert melding outdoor projection technology with orchestral works which boasted over 10,000 attendees. At Lyric Opera of Chicago, Luther was featured as a Lehrbuben in Die Meistersinger von Nüremberg in 2013 and covered the role of Mingo in Porgy and Bess at Lyric in 2014 with subsequent appearances in the chorus of several other productions.
In recent years, Luther has set out to pursue singing and visual art simultaneously through such projects as Opera Illustrations: A Gallery Concert presented in collaboration with Chicago Opera Theater at the historic Goodman Theatre in downtown Chicago in 2018 as well as the Opera Legends Art Show Concert presented with the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana in Evansville, IN in 2015. Luther currently resides in Chicago, IL and has studied Vocal Performance at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of Kentucky as well as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a focus on Opera Design & Directing.
