June 19, 1958 – March 30, 2021
An entrepreneur, a talented tenor and a family man, Brian Liechty was easily one of the most passionate Broadway connoisseurs and promoters of all time. As President of South Bend’s Broadway Theatre League, Brian would clamor with excitement to share each new season and production with you, his patrons, in the hopes that you would discover the same spark and theatrical magic that he did.
Always the funnyman, Brian navigated his work, his hobbies and his life with a strong dose of humor to help others feel at ease, no matter the news or situation. He shared many in-the-wings jokes with our Senior Director of Operations during countless Broadway in South Bend productions over the years.
“It’s rare that you meet someone as passionate both about their community and the performing arts as Brian,” says our President, Amy Hamm. “Thanks to him, we have the opportunity to present the best of Broadway at the Morris PAC and we are proud to continue this tradition. I feel fortunate to have known Brian as a dedicated proponent of the arts as well as a friend. His legacy is in every Broadway performance. He is in our hearts as we forge forward with this season and we hope to make him proud.”
Beyond his work and his community servitude, Brian loved life and was always ready for a road trip to nowhere. His plan for retirement was a new motorhome to share these adventures with his wife, Becky, however in town, you were more likely to spot him sporting an orange shirt in his Miata convertible affectionately called “Sunny.”
After a lengthy battle with COVID-Pneumonia, Brian passed away on March 30, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
To celebrate our friend who lived a life much too large for any stage or production, we dedicate this season to him.
