Celebrating Roger's 30 Years with Alabama Ballet
A Message from Artistic Director Christopher Stuart
Dear Friends of the Alabama Ballet,
As we embark on our 2025–2026 season, we are filled with gratitude and anticipation. Our season, aptly titled In the Wake, reflects on the legacy of our past, the momentum of our present, and the bold strides toward our future. We are honored to present a lineup that honors tradition and embraces innovation.
Legacy in Motion- Roger VanFleteren’s contributions to the Alabama Ballet are immeasurable. From his early days as Ballet Master and Resident Choreographer to his current role as Associate Artistic Director. His original works have left an indelible mark on our repertoire. This performance series, we pay tribute to his legacy.
George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker- We are proud to continue our tradition of performing George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. With its dazzling choreography and Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, this holiday classic remains a cornerstone of our season.
Sleeping Beauty-The timeless tale of Sleeping Beauty returns to our stage, enchanting audiences with its rich storytelling and exquisite choreography. This production promises to transport you to a world of magic and wonder, celebrating the enduring power of classical ballet.
At Home: Mixtape
We proudly present At Home: Mixtape, an innovative performance featuring new choreography by me. This dynamic evening will showcase a curated selection of music, with our audience invited to vote on some of the tracks to be choreographed. This interactive experience fosters a shared journey of discovery and expression.
Carmina Burana and Serenade
We conclude our season with two monumental works. Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, choreographed by Paul Vasterling, will feature the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and over 100 singers, delivering its thunderous rhythms and soaring melodies. Additionally, we celebrate over 90 years since the creation of George Balanchine’s Serenade. This piece has become a cornerstone of the ballet canon, showcasing the beauty and depth of classical dance.
As we move forward, we are inspired by the legacy of those who have come before us and energized by the possibilities that lie ahead. We invite you to join us in this season of reflection, momentum, and bold forward movement.
With heartfelt appreciation,
