"In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking!" Cole Porter - ANYTHING GOES
Oddly enough, even though I grew up with dozens of Broadway cast albums in our home, the first version of today's title song I became familiar with was by the 1960s band, Harper's Bizarre. It wasn't till I was in high school that I ended up hearing the entire score for the first time when I had to sing "You're the Top" in a musical review. I was hooked on Cole Porter immediately.
Though the show is nearly 100 years old now, with songs that have become standards and used many times over in films, TV productions and more. The jazzy arrangements and clever lyrics make terrific songs and an overall "feel good" entertainment - something most of us need about now.
As we come into the home stretch of our 35th season, we are busy planning next season and hope to have that announced very soon. I can guarantee that it will be a FANTASTICK season for all you GUYS AND DOLLS! :-)
In the meantime, we're extremely excited to have the star of the recent Broadway production of FUNNY GIRL - Julie Benko - coming back to CT and Curtain Call where she starred in our 2007 production of BABY!
She and her husband, jazz artist Jason Yeager will headline a fundraising concert for us at the Norwalk Concert Hall on Saturday, May 31. This will be our biggest fundraiser of the year, so I hope you can join us. Our website will be updated with details this weekend. We'll have a special offer for our current Flex Pass Subscribers as well.
Also, thank you all for your support in our legislative actions and on Giving Day!
FOR NOW, ENJOY THIS FABULOUS COLE PORTER SCORE!
