A year ago at this time, I - like so many other theatre leaders - honestly didn't know if we could survive the pandemic shutdown. In my heart of hearts, I believed that we could, but the logical part of me was a bit worried.
In the early days of 2021, many theatres and performance venues across the country had already folded forever...something no arts lover ever wants to see. We were mounting two-person plays with an audience capacity of less than 50 hoping we could hang in there while still remaining a presence in the community. It was a crazy period, but now, even though we're far from being back to "normal," I'm happy to say that we're out of the woods, still here and we're not going away.
I can say that because we have the BEST FANS/FRIENDS in the world. You, our loyal theatregoers, have sent us both moral and financial support during this nearly two year period. When we ask for help - whether in cash or donated books - you respond. And so, as Fairfield County Giving Day rolls around on February 24, we need to ask again.
On Giving Day, February 24, if every patron who sees Into the Woods makes just a $10 contribution to Curtain Call during that 24-hour period, we could raise a significant amount of money. And, if we're the organization that has the greatest number of individual contributors, we'll pick up a $10,000 bonus which can go into our endowment fund.
As we celebrate 50 years in The Kweskin Theatre, if it's within your means to donate $50 that would be incredible. If you're in a position to make a significantly larger contribution, the Giving Day system can accept that, too. Of course, if you want to speak with me about a gift in the range of $1,000,000 or more, I'm available!
My favorite song in Into the Woods both lyrically and musically is Children Will Listen. Right now, I hope that not just the children, but everyone reading this will listen, and support us on Giving Day.
Thanks so much for being here...enjoy the show!

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both en-chanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
