"ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE..."
William Shakespeare - As You Like It
It may be true that all the world is a stage and that we are all merely playing our parts, but for two brief weekends each summer, we like to think of our world being here on Curtain Call's version of the Globe Theatre Stage.
It's hard to believe that it has been 20 years since we began presenting our annual outdoor program. We've been out here every summer. -including the summer of 2020 when, while we couldn't do a full-scale production due to pandemic restrictions, we still put together a program of Shakespearean scenes, monologues and songs from musicals inspired by the works of the Bard.
That summer, Shakespeare really saved us. We were fortunate that we'd had 16 years of experience producing outdoor events, plus, we owned the stage, lighting and sound rigs, so creating a program that was safe for our performers but still highlighted the works of "the Bard" was a perfect solution to bring in some financial support in that crazy summer.
Many of you here tonight have been with us since the beginning, so thank you for your loyal support. Hundreds of actors, crew members and other volunteers have contributed to make this program the success that it has been. Former Mayor Dannel Malloy, Sterling Farms Executive Directors Paul Grillo and Bekim Ukperaj, restaurateurs Pete & Maria Haritopoulos, Mike Zody and Ari Thanos have all had a large part in making this program possible. Our great thanks to our sponsors, most importantly, Garden Homes Foundation.
Back in the summer of 1972, while the City of Stamford was getting ready to open what is now known as The Kweskin Theatre, the founding artistic director, Albert Pia, was presenting shows on a portable stage just about where we are performing tonight! Some things never change, I guess.
As always, the best source of advertising for us is for you, our friends and fans, to tell your friends. The past several years have been terrible for the performing arts industry, and while we're producing at "normal" levels, audience numbers are still not back to pre-pandemic levels. Your support tonight is so greatly appreciated as we work toward presenting the same level of performance you come to expect here.
I hope to see you here again soon and really hope you'll consider becoming (or re-joining) us as Flex Pass subscribers. (Check out our 33rd season listing in this program.)
Thanks so much and enjoy the show.
