Welcome To the JLC!
Welcome to the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts' 23/24 season! We're so happy to have you join us as we continue to build the arts community in Lake County.

The arts have such a huge impact, whether you're on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience. They help us travel near and far, giving us an opportunity to express our emotions, share our passions, and explore other cultures. The arts enrich our lives, creating joy and wonder or challenging us to examine things in a new way. They also serve as a source of enrichment and entertainment, allowing us to forget our daily lives and immerse ourselves in creativity and inspiration.

However you experience the arts, we thank you for doing so at the JLC. You are part of our community, and we applaud you for supporting the arts.

Enjoy the show!

About Malevo

THE COMPANY
MALEVO – the “South American Sensation” - created by director, choreographer and dancer Matías Jaime. After being named “Cultural Ambassador of the National Identity of Argentina” and after numerous successes, including events and performances in Las Vegas, Paris, Montreal, China, Mumbai, New York, Moscow, Dubai, London, Qatar, semi-finalists on the hit television show America’s Got Talent, choreographies of malambo for the Latin pop star Ricky Martin, participation in the Cirque du Soleil Gala, a year-long season of performances at Universal Studios Osaka, Japan, shows in Norwegian Cruise line, and Opening Show at the Royal Albert Hall for the “Royal Variety Performance” Gala in London, etc, MALEVO is pleased to present an electrifying new touring show created for proscenium theaters of performing arts centers and festivals.

WHAT IS MALAMBO?
At the beginning of the last century, in Argentina, the gauchos or cowboys created a kind of dance they eventually called MALAMBO. Malambo in the named language of the pampas, means to gallop, in a way, malambo imitated a galloping horse.

The malambo is one of the traditional dances of Argentina, of great dexterity, virility and energy, that it was born around the year 1600 in the Pampas solitudes.

It consists of an individual dance that is characterized by using an almost permanent tapping, that originally had the character of an individual
exhibition as a battle and challenge between men, who stomp in turn to music, and later became a spontaneous competition dance between countrymen.

The Show
MALEVO brings live music and virtuoso dance to the contemporary stage in an exciting and electrifying show, perfect for the whole family. An experience set to a pulsating rhythm of drums, boleadoras and stomping. The strength and energy of the Malambo, (traditional Argentine folk dance of great virility and dexterity), Malevo pushes it beyond its limits with a modern, avaunt-garden and transgressive approach, without ceasing to be faithful to the cultural foundations of this Argentinian traditional dance.
A visual and sensory experience, awakening the senses and increasing the adrenaline of the audience, a perfect combination of wild energy with a warrior instinct.
