Lift Every Voice and Sing - CLC Gospel Choir, Matthew Hunter, Conductor
Composed by James Weldon Johnson and J. Rosamond Johnson
Lift every voice and sing till earth and heaven ring
Ring with the harmonies of liberty
Let our rejoicing rise high as the listening skies
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea
Sing a song, full of the faith that the dark past has taught us
Sing a song, full of the hope that the present has brought us
Facing the rising sum of our new day
College of Lake County 40th Salute to Gospel
What began in 1986 as a way to support the College of Lake County's Gospel Choir is now an annual program advocating personal development and cultural enrichment among people of color. It is one of CLC's best-known community outreach activities and aims to encourage African American youth to appreciate the many advantages of a CLC education. Over the years, Salute to Gospel Music has showcased dynamic and legendary performers like The Winans, Shirley Caesar and many more.

We respectfully acknowledge that Lake County is on the ancestral homelands of the Kickapoo, Peoria, Potawatomi, and other native peoples. We recognize the longstanding significance of these lands for indigenous peoples past, present and future. Historical awareness of indigenous exclusion and erasure is critically important to preventing further atrocities. The College of Lake County pledges to acknowledge the grave injustices of the past and pledges to create awareness and advance education that invites truth.
