Thank you for joining us for our Spring 23 Performing Arts Series. We are really excited about the season, which truly includes something for everyone - family programming, dance, and multiple world-class musicians.
This season is special to me as it's the first one that I programmed since joining the JLC as Executive Director. In planning the season, I was looking for both variety and artistic integrity. Every artist we're presenting is truly amazing and we're honored to be bringing some of the best musicians in the world to Lake County. We're sure you'll love everything you see on our stage so we encourage you to take a chance, buy a ticket, and join us for another show!
We'd also like to know more about you. What do you like? What would you like to see more of? Please fill out our audience survey to let us know if you want more of a specific genre or type of program. We appreciate your input.
Enjoy the show!
Warm regards,

Gangstagrass combines great American traditions of bluegrass, hip-hop, and beyond to create a whole new musical genre that is more than the sum of its parts.
As latest album No Time For Enemies climbed to #1 on the Billboard bluegrass chart, Americana Highways magazine proclaimed Emmy-nominated Gangstagrass “America’s Band” because they take so much of what’s amazing about this country -- ingenuity, creativity, freedom, unity across differences, people’s individual strength and struggles -- and distill it into a message of common ground in the form of original songs that have everyone up & dancing!
This show is fun for ALL AGES: Little kids, teens, grandparents, and everyone in between -- bring the whole fam!

History of Gangstagrass Developed as a studio project 15 years ago by Brooklyn-based producer Rench, Gangstagrass grew into a dynamic and spontaneous live band of Americans -- from Nebraska, Florida, Pennsylvania, Washington DC -- who have become close friends. Several work hard at other jobs (one teaches computer programming, another works at a comic book shop) to support their passion for making music, and four are dads, with kids ranging in age from toddler through college. The band has released six full-length albums with dozens of appearances on the Billboard Top 10 bluegrass chart. Gangstagrass tracks have featured Nitty Scott MC, Dead Prez, Demeanor, Kaia Kater, and legendary rap team Smif-N-Wessun among others. Rench, the Brooklyn-based country and hip-hop producer who is the Mastermind behind Gangstagrass, crafted the instantly-recognizable Long Hard Times to Come featuring T.O.N.E-z that opened every episode of FX show Justified and earned Gangstagrass a 2010 Emmy nomination for Best Theme Song – more proof that Gangstagrass "paved the Old Town Road." Putting down roots and branching out across never-before-bridged genres, Gangstagrass has delighted crowds and has blown minds across the world, garnering a reputation among fans for dynamism and spontaneity. From SXSW to Grey Fox to the Americana Festival to music festivals abroad, these live performances explode the boundaries between genres generally thought to be incompatible and bring together audiences of unparalleled diversity. Forbes magazine called Gangstagrass the "band bringing America together from the roots." Rolling Stone observed that Gangstagrass "smuggled hip-hop onto acoustic music institutions as varied as Nashville’s Station Inn (a first) and New York’s Town Hall," and the album No Time For Enemies reaching the top of the Billboard bluegrass chart marked the first time in history that real hip-hop MCs have been #1 in Billboard's bluegrass category. Howie Mandel described Gangstagrass as “the recipe that America has been looking for until now” and “what America needs right now!” Taking full advantage of the improvisational aspects and virtues of both hip-hop and bluegrass, including frequent three-part harmonies, MCs Dolio the Sleuth and R-SON the Voice of Reason trade verses and freestyle alongside the unparalleled skills of fellow vocalists Dan "Danjo" Whitener on banjo and dobro, B.E. Farrow (Americana Music Awards instrumentalist of the year nominee) on fiddle, and Rench on guitar and beats. The next Gangstagrass album is slated for release later this year, which means that in addition to your old favorites you'll hear brand new songs at this show as the band continues to explore new sonic territory while showing how amazing the sound of America is when it all comes together.
