Dear Columbus Symphony Supporter,
Thank you for joining us as for the concluding programs of the 2023-24 Masterworks series.
Tchaikovsky & Prokofiev, April 19-20, will feature Columbus Symphony concertmaster Joanna Frankel performing Prokofiev’s hauntingly beautiful Violin Concerto No. 2, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, and Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and personal fourth symphony.
For The Return of Natasha Paremski, May 3-4, we will welcome audience favorite pianist Natasha Paremski back to Columbus with Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The program will also include Witold Lutosławski’s Symphony No. 1, Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite, and This Moment, a new work by Anna Clyne, commissioned by the League of American Orchestras with the generous support of the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.
Rising conductor Kenneth Bean joins the CSO for Beethoven Symphony No. 2, May 17-18. Cellist Thomas Mesa performs two works: a new cello concerto by Jessie Montgomery, and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme. Bookending the program are Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides and Beethoven’s second symphony.
We will close the 2023-24 Masterworks season with Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, May 24-25. The Columbus Symphony Chorus will shine in this program featuring Mozart’s sublime work.
This has been a season full of transformative musical experiences, and we are so pleased that you have been a part of it. On behalf of the entire Columbus Symphony family, thank you for your exceptional support of our orchestra this season, and thank you for joining us to experience the power of music together.
Please enjoy tonight’s performance!
