About the Concert

Epic Opera is a concert showcasing some of the most thrilling moments from the opera repertoire. Maestro Neal Gittleman conducts a dazzling program ranging from the grandest of Grand Opera to more contemporary works, with music by Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, and more! Featuring stellar soloists, we celebrate the return to the stage of the Dayton Opera Chorus, joined by the Dayton Philharmonic Chorus, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra in a program of exhilarating overtures, beloved arias, stirring ensembles, and favorite opera choruses.

2022 Opera Guild of Dayton’s High School Vocal Competition

Congratulations to the Winners of the 2022 Opera Guild of Dayton’s High School Vocal Competition

The Opera Guild of Dayton’s annual High School Vocal Competition returned this year in a virtual format due to COVID-19 restrictions. Chaired by Opera Guild board member Dr. David Sievers, the competition had video submissions by 16 singers from across Ohio. The judges were Kathleen Clawson, Artistic Director of Dayton Opera; Dr. Minnita Daniel-Cox from the University of Dayton; and Dr. Benjamin Smolder from Miami University (OH). These singers will be recognized at each night’s performance of Epic Opera.


First Place Luis Vega-Torres

Luis Vega-Torres is a junior at Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati and studies voice with Kathy Cammett.


Second Place Emelia Aceto

Emelia Aceto studies with Denise Milner-Howell and is a junior at Highland High School in Hinckley.


Third Place Luke Randazzo

Luke Randazzo studies with Kathy Cammett and is a senior at the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati.
