As we sip our pumpkin spice lattes, adjust our clocks, and cozy up in our favorite sweaters, we find ourselves in the heart of autumn, a season of change and reflection. With the delightful arrival of fall, we invite you to join us in a concert as dynamic as the changing leaves themselves.
Under the skilled direction of guest conductor Héctor Jardón and the mesmerizing artistry of flutist Whitney Kelley, we embark on a musical journey that mirrors the shifts and progressions of society and time. Our program is a celebration of transformation, resonating with the changing leaves and the evolving seasons.
Florence Price's Concert Overture No. 1 opens the evening, offering a powerful testament to resilience from the Jim Crow era. Price's music speaks of change and unity, reminding us of the enduring strength of the human spirit. Her compositions have a timeless quality, and we are thrilled to bring her work to life on our stage.
Liebermann's Flute Concerto, brought to life by Whitney Kelley's virtuosity, takes us on a melodic adventure filled with hope and transformation. Liebermann's compositions are known for their ability to touch the heart, and this concerto is no exception.
We conclude our evening with Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5 "Reformation," a symphonic exploration of reform and renewal. As the leaves outside change and the air turns crisp, Mendelssohn's music echoes the spirit of the season. His genius lies in his ability to capture the essence of change and growth, a fitting conclusion to our concert.
