PROGRAM BOOK
Welcome!
Dear Music Enthusiasts,

Welcome to a world where the joy of learning and the art of teaching converge in a symphony of inspiration. "The Maestro and His Maestro," a unique celebration of mentorship, collaboration, and the transformative power of music.

In this special concert, Maestros Lawrence Golan and Robert Spano come together, not only as extraordinary conductors but also as teacher and student. Their musical kinship, built on a foundation of mentorship, brings an added layer of depth to the evening's performance.

At the heart of this celebration is our collaboration with the International Conducting Institute (ICI), an organization dedicated to advancing the art of conducting. Administered by ICI, the conductor workshops provide students with unparalleled instruction, extensive podium time, and affordable tuition. The result? A platform for aspiring conductors to hone their skills, pursue their career goals, and embark on a journey of musical discovery.

During this concert, the baton is gracefully passed to talented conductors from the DPO’s 4th Annual International Conducting Workshop. They'll trade off movements, competing for the chance to conduct the orchestra in a future DPO concert in 2024-25. It's a showcase of mentorship in action, where the joy of learning is palpable, and the seeds of future musical leadership are sown.

The program, featuring works by Jennifer Higdon, Edward Elgar, Robert Schumann, and more, serves as a living testament to the harmonious relationship between mentor and mentee. As the melodies unfold, each note becomes a lesson, a guide, and an inspiration.

In addition to the main performance, a preconcert showcases enchanting compositions by Edward Elgar, Bao Yuankai, Florence Price, and Peter Boyer, adding an extra layer of musical richness to the evening.

Join us in celebrating the collaborative spirit of music, the joys of learning, and the enduring bond between the maestro and his mentor. "The Maestro and His Maestro" is more than a concert; it's an ode to the transformative power of mentorship that resonates through every note.

Embrace the magic of musical education, and let the symphony of mentorship inspire you.

Harmoniously yours,

Roger Haak, Executive Director
