It is with deep gratitude and humility that I stepped into the role of director for Landmark Community Theatre’s production of the beloved classic, Fiddler on the Roof. This iconic musical has touched the hearts of audiences worldwide for decades, and I feel immensely blessed to have the opportunity to bring to life the story of Anatevka’s residents with such an incredibly talented and giving cast and production team.

As we gather to perform this timeless tale, I am struck by the remarkable parallels between the challenges faced by the Jewish community of Anatevka and the struggles that continue to unfold in our modern world. The themes of tradition, displacement, and the search for identity and belonging that resonate so profoundly in Fiddler on the Roof find echoes in the urgent conversations surrounding immigration and the ongoing fight for human rights. Yet, at its core, this is not a story of sadness, but of resilience, joy, and an unshakable faith in the face of adversity. Tevye's unwavering spirit and the community's ability to find moments of celebration and laughter, even in the darkest of times, serve as a powerful testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit.

As we take the stage in this historic building, we cannot ignore the somber reminders of the past that linger in the form of the swastikas on the ceiling. However, we choose to respond with a renewed commitment to using the arts as a force for unity, understanding, and social change. Through our collective performance, we aim to honor the memory of those who have suffered, while also igniting a spark of hope and inspiration within our audiences.

As we embark on this journey together, let us embrace the timeless lessons of Fiddler on the Roof and carry them forward, using the power of storytelling to foster empathy, celebrate diversity, and inspire positive changes in our community and beyond.
