Welcome!
How thrilled are we that you are joining us to get spooky, kooky, and all together ooky as you enjoy Landmark Community Theatre’s production of The Addams Family! Bringing to life this iconic piece of American culture was a wickedly wonderful challenge that inspired the best parts of each of us to come out and play. This delightfully macabre musical explores the creepy, mysterious, and gloriously wonderful household which has now been immortalized time and time again on television, the big screen, and in cartoon history. From the page to the stage, Charles Addams’ 1938 original single panel cartoons created the characters we’ve come to know and love–and those same characters you’ll see on stage today!
The Addams Family musical is a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family. Little Wednesday Addams is all grown up and has fallen in love with the boy of her dreams. Wanting nothing more than a normal night where the two families can meet and have a simple dinner–we are led down a winding road of rising tensions, ensuing chaos, and the hopes of love triumphing over all.
What we, as directors, found to be most fulfilling as we dug deeper into the world of our dark and dreary-loving Addams Family though, was how much light the lessons that they teach us bring to the world. One normal night in the company of our favorite quirky family and we see that love is love is love is love. We see that we should always love fiercely. We see that you should never be afraid to show the world exactly who you are. We see that family–blood or chosen–always comes first. We see that even when we move toward the darkness, there is an undeniable beauty that can be found in the most unexpected places.
We could not have accomplished this monumental task of directing The Addams Family without the help and support of our incredible production team: John Dressel, Deb Cryan, Tyler Caisse, Lucas Peck, Jack Richards, Aric Martin Calabrese, David Nichols, Chris Guertin, George LaChance, Ian Jones, Michael “Gonzo” Gonsalves, and Stefanie Porcaro. We also would like to give a special thanks to Jeff Dunn and Andrea Bingham for entrusting this show to us. All of our love to our hard-working, unparalleled cast. Above all, community theater would not be the majestic safe haven it is without audiences like you. So thank you for joining us.
One final note...we dedicate this production of The Addams Family in memory of the one and only Phyllis C. Walent. A woman who loved fiercely, was unabashedly herself at all times, and who showed Cheyenne that family was more than blood–it was the ones who chose to love you each day even more fiercely than the day before. For the light she brought to this world, the mints she passed out, and the legacy she left behind–this one’s for you, Phyllis.
Full Disclosure.
With all our thanks and love,
Cheyenne Walent & Michael P.M. Calabrese
