For Wendel

Each day you give me beauty.
You find it in a leaf or in the sky
Or in a rock or flower.
Even in winter you find a bouquet.
In the heart of February,
You find salmon geraniums and white petunias
Blooming in the summer fisherman's crates.
You find Joseph's coat and asparagus fern-
A breath of summer for the days of snow.
Each day you give me beauty
In your eyes and in your ways.
