PROGRAM

And the trees…
Jorge Variego
(b. 1975)

The personification of history
Lives in rings
Trapped within
You will never know the stories
The things seen while living
Growing
Season by season
Year by year
With branches reaching out like fingers
Toward the sky
And roots digging deep within the souls
Of our dirt

Recompensa
Jorge Variego

Malambo
Jorge Variego

A backdrop to beautiful
A prop to hatred
A canvas for love
Always watching and giving
Breath to the needy
Speaking through the rustle of leaves
Clothed with hope and destiny

Tango Blues
Jorge Variego

ZIta
Astor Piazzolla
(1921-1992)

Traveling without motion
Sending forth children to plant themselves
In a distant world
Trees are the observers of past, present and future
With spirits that remind us of life
Proving that resurrection is possible after the cold season
They die only to be reborn as more beautiful than before
Showing their glory with flowers and fruit
Sprouting forth with the idea of constant hope
Truly defining the meaning of accepting the good and the bad
Sunshine and storms are always a part of their story
Yet we watch with anticipation to see how they will champion
Through it all

Susurro de Paris
Jorge Variego

Instruct silent lessons of grace and mercy
Acceptance and triumph
Refusing to back down, they give and take
Life and dreams
Faith and Aspirations
Joy and Pain

Tema de Manuel
Jorge Variego

Reencuentro
Jorge Variego

They are home, shelter
Safety and Belief
Our dependence on their existence
Will never cease to amaze
We are and they are
They are and We are
Life happening
Creation made perfect
