About the Show

The Plano Symphony Orchestra hosts the Collin County Young Artist Competition annually. Nearly 100 participants in secondary education compete. The three incredible winners of the competition perform their winning concertos in this concert. Prepare to be amazed!

Scheherazade combines two features typical of Russian music in general and of Rimsky-Korsakov in particular: dazzling, colorful orchestration and with an interest in the East, which figured greatly in the history of Imperial Russia. The name “Scheherazade” refers to the main character of One Thousand and One Nights, who famously told a king one-thousand stories in hopes that he would spare her life.

Elisabeth Adkins, Concertmaster of the Plano Symphony and Corpus Christi Symphony, performs the considerable concerto-style violin part in Scheherazade.
