The Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra (SCSO) is the largest instrumental ensemble at Shenandoah Conservatory dedicated to the performance of both standard and contemporary repertoire. The ensemble typically presents six different programs each season, including a full opera production and a program featuring winners of the annual Student Soloists Competition. There are currently between 75 and 80 regular members in the SCSO.
Shenandoah Conservatory is home to more than twenty instrumental, choral and dance ensembles presenting numerous performances each year. On-campus venues include Armstrong Concert Hall, Goodson Chapel – Recital Hall, Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre (proscenium stage), Glaize Studio Theatre, the Harold Herman Lab Theatre and Shenandoah’s outdoor amphitheater. Students also perform at multiple venues across the Northern Shenandoah Valley (including historic Winchester’s Bright Box Theater) and around the world.
Shenandoah Conservatory Invites provides instrumental high school students multiple opportunities each year to make music with Shenandoah faculty, students and ensembles. Musicians playing string, brass, woodwind and percussion instruments will find events enabling intensive study with Shenandoah’s world-class faculty and the opportunity to make music alongside current conservatory students. Each of these events take place on Shenandoah’s beautiful Winchester campus.
Shenandoah Conservatory’s prestigious faculty is dynamic, creative, caring, compassionate, wise and passionately committed to the highest levels of artistic and professional excellence. Here, you’ll study with, and perform for, award-winning composers, theatre directors and designers, and choreographers; Metropolitan Opera singers; Broadway veterans; Grammy Award-winning faculty and international competition winners. You’ll gain a vibrant, holistic performing arts education as you learn from leading scholars in music, theatre and dance and collaborate with classmates to create meaningful artistic experiences.
