Biography

Pianist Jr. Medina has received numerous awards for his artistry in the United States,  Mexico, Cuba, and Guatemala. These awards include prizes in piano competitions,  nominations for CD recordings, and scholarships for outstanding academic  achievements.

Medina is completing a master’s degree under the renowned Irish pianist John O’Conor at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. He completed postgraduate studies at LYNN University Conservatory of Music in Florida and an Internship at the Universidad de Costa Rica. Additionally, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Universidad InterNaciones and with high honors with a Bachelor of Arts in piano performance from the Germán Alcántara National Conservatory of Music in Guatemala. His mentors have been Roberta Rust, Leonardo Gell and Zoila Luz García Salas.

He has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the LYNN Philharmonia (United States of America), the National Symphony Orchestra of Guatemala, the Orchestra of the Germán Alcántara National Conservatory of Music, and the Municipal Youth Orchestra of Guatemala. In 2025, Medina will add a performance with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba to this list. His performances have taken him to prestigious concert halls across the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, and Guatemala, demonstrating his international presence 

Jr. is the co-founder and artistic director of the Luis Felipe Arias Piano Festival Competition (Guatemala 2024) and co-founder and cultural promoter of the Guatemalan Pianists’ Encounter.

Jr Medina is from the studio of John O'Conor. This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Master of Music in Performance (Piano).
