Biography

Benjamin Figgs is a cellist born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia. Cello gives Figgs a purpose: to share emotions with others through music. His fondness for his instrument began when he started playing in fifth grade, but his total devotion started in high school after consistent private lessons from Kenneth Slavett. After winning the Williamsburg Youth Orchestra concerto competition at Ewell Hall in 2019, he was invigorated to continue his studies through college and pursue cello performance as his career. Figgs also won the Shenandoah Conservatory Student Soloists Competition in 2023.

Figgs currently studies at Shenandoah Conservatory under Julian Schwarz's tutelage and leaps at every opportunity to grow and share his performance skills, whether it is for gigs, teaching students at his past schools, or in the practice room.

Degree Fulfillment

Ben Figgs is from the studio of Julian Schwarz. This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Cello).
