Biography

Cliff Hernandez is a senior composer and saxophonist from Woodbridge, Virgina. He performs in multiple groups at Shenandoah Conservatory including the Wind Ensemble and Saxophone Collective, and is currently the baritone saxophonist in the Parea Saxophone Quartet. Several of his compositions have been performed by groups at Shenandoah University (SU) and others, including his work In Between Time, premiered by the Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School Wind Symphony and Alumni band in the spring of 2024, conducted by himself. In the fall of 2024, his work Padovan won the William Averitt Prize for Excellence in Composition and was premiered by the Shenandoah Conservatory EDGE Ensemble. Hernandez has also written multiple transcriptions for the Parea Quartet, SU Saxophone Collective, SU Marching Band and SU CONTEMPO Ensemble.
