Previously, Smith worked as organist at the United Church of Christ in her hometown of York, Pennsylvania. An active member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), she serves on the board of the D.C. Chapter as their young organist coordinator. Through the AGO, Smith has participated in masterclasses with world-renowned concert organists and educators, including Thierry Escaich, James O’Donnell and Dr. Mary-Beth Bennett. This spring, Smith was one of ten organists chosen to perform on the 49th annual Bach Marathon at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church. Other recent performances include a solo recital on the 1804 Tannenberg Organ located in the York Historical Center, as well as a program of cello and organ duets on the Aeolian-Skinner Organ at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Also an accomplished harpist, Smith studies with Ms. Lynnelle Ediger and Ms. Taylor Fleshman. She is the co-founder of Calypso Harp Duo alongside harpist Brynn Olden, who performed many concerts throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. Smith actively performs with both the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. In 2024 she was invited to perform with former Royal Harpist, Claire Jones, in Jones’s concert series releasing her new collaborative album, 2K+ Fusion. Last week, Smith appeared with the Main Street Chamber Orchestra in their performance of John William’s Star Wars Suite. Smith frequently performs solo recitals that creatively feature both harp and organ.
Smith is the founder and artistic director of the Shenandoah Valley String Orchestra. Fueled by Shenandoah’s Conservatory’s leading musicians, the ensemble has performed famous works in the string orchestra repertoire by Tchaikovsky, Barber, Bach and Suk. She currently studies conducting under Maestro Juliano Aniceto, director of orchestras at the New England Conservatory Preparatory. Last summer, Smith participated in the New York Conducting Workshop and Respighi Competition where she conducted the New York Chamber Orchestra through works by Mahler, Wagner and Gershwin. Last spring, she had the opportunity to work with her colleagues at Shenandoah Conservatory in a silent film project with music by Cliff Hernandez, where she conducted the orchestra in a live accompaniment to the film. In the summer of 2024, she was awarded the Shenandoah University Summer Internship, through which she worked for the GreenSpring International Academy of Music. There, she was able to conduct ensembles, lead rehearsals and teach music theory classes. She currently serves as the music director for a student-led opera group which will be performing a sequence of scenes from famous operas such as Carmen, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro.
