Welcome to the 11th season of Zach Theater’s A Christmas Carol. One of the great joys in creating this version of Charles Dickens’ timeless story is that each year I find new ways to entertain and delight you, and to respond to our community and the world at large—a time to reflect, lift hearts, and find joy.

This year has been especially fun in rehearsals as we’ve collaborated with Cassie Abate, who has created all-new, spectacular choreography for our stellar cast! If you are a frequent attendee, you know that Musical Director Allen Robertson and I annually change some of the music. This season we've refreshed more songs than ever before, energizing the experience for our artists and loyal audiences, while holding onto the moments you’ve told me are your favorites.

I’ve been reflecting on how to be more like Scrooge’s nephew Fred. His cheerful optimism, kindness, and generosity feel like vital goals for the new year. Fred embodies the true holiday spirit: unwavering goodwill, celebrating with loved ones, offering forgiveness, and a deep love for his community—even his grumpy uncle. His light burns bright.

Our production begins with a party to celebrate community, the kind of gathering we might enjoy together twirling under the Christmas Tree lights in Zilker Park. You are invited to sing with us, wave your light sticks, clack your Z fan—a new addition—and dance if the Spirits move ya!

CASSIE ABATE ( Choreographer) - Cassie is the  Associate Artistic Director at Zach, and author of the international textbook The Art and Practice of Musical Theatre Choreography. Zach Theater direction and choreography credits include WAITRESS, JERSEY BOYS, BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, THE PROM, HEAD OVER HEELS, CINDERELLA, THE INHERITANCE, and ONCE. RODD SIMONSEN (Video Programmer) Theater Sound and Video Designer, Rodd studied Radio, Television and Film at the University of Texas at Austin. He works full-time as an Audiovisual Design Consultant for EEA, designing theatrical and performance sound systems. This is Rodd’s seventh year designing projections for A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Rodd also works with many central Texas community theaters and schools. He consults with many area schools training aspiring young technicians in both sound and video.
