DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Last year during the holidays I had the opportunity to experience the amazing sing-along concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall in London. The gorgeous venue is packed nightly with 5,000 audience members singing Christmas songs, dressed in their most festive holiday sweaters, Santa hats and light-up necklaces. It was impossible to leave there without feeling joyously in the holiday spirit. This experience coupled with the vibrant, singing pub culture in the UK was the spark that made me want to create an intimate version of this concert experience for Austin. I miss communal singing in public, which seemed to happen a lot more when I was a kid, but rarely seems to happen these days.

Longtime ZACH musical director and collaborator Allen Robertson is an expert in thinking about audience participation and the ways that we foster and build community through music. We both believe there is a tonic for the soul when a community of people gather and sing together, find moments of connection, and bring joy to each other. Allen and I created POP! as a guided sing-along concert experience that changes each performance based on your participation. Like ZACH's Rockin' Christmas Party and A Christmas Carol, which mix holiday favorites with pop music from multiple eras, this is the kind of party that has become synonymous with ZACH.

We love the longtime Austin traditions of the 37th Street Hyde Park neighborhood Christmas light display, twirling under the Zilker tree, and strolling the Trail of Lights. We have invited the LIGHT indoors to our POP! space in hopes that we will light up your night and your life in ways that are meaningful, fun, and celebratory for your family and friends.

You are invited to sing along with us, and order drinks from the bar throughout the night.

We are so grateful to you for including ZACH in your holiday plans.
Let's have a blast together!
