Derek has served as Resident Scenic Designer at Barter since 2012, and prior to that was Barter’s Scenic Artist beginning in 2003. Hailing from Kingsport, TN, Derek grew up coming to shows at Barter, and this theater has and always will hold a special place in his heart. He remains eternally grateful for and humbled by the opportunity to continue to learn and grow as an artist at Barter and to work with such a talented group of people, and to serve the community in which he was raised. Past designs include: Sister Act, A Christmas Carol (2016), Tarzan, Big Fish, Footloose, A Christmas Story, Mary Poppins, The Three Musketeers, Ring of Fire, Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol, A Streetcar Named Desire, Avenue Q, and The Bridges of Madison County. He is an alumnus of the Savannah College of Art & Design. “My heart to Corrina and Aiden, who make all things possible.”
