Sydney de Briel may have been raised on Topsail Island, NC, but it was her deep familial roots in Carter County, TN that led her to Barter Theatre. She spent her childhood summers in Stoney Creek learning to sew and performing in Elizabethton, TN's outdoor drama The Wataugans (now called Liberty!) with her mother and grandmother. She went on to receive her Bachelor's degree in Theatrical Design and Production From UNC-Asheville and her Master of Fine Arts degree in Scenography from UNC-Greensboro. Regionally, she has worked for North Carolina Stage Company, Flatrock Playhouse, Triad Stage, Carolina Ballet, and Greensboro Opera. Abroad, she has worked as the Costume Shop Manager for La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy, and as the wardrobe supervisor for Twyla Tharp's 50th Anniversary international tour. She is so grateful to finally be home in Appalachia and to be able to serve her community through her work as the Resident Costume Designer for The Barter Players.
