Alex Klein
Oboe

 

In his native Brazil, Alex Klein grew swiftly as an oboist,  playing a debut solo performance with a symphony orchestra at just ten years old. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he has performed as a visiting soloist with orchestras around the USA and world, including here on our stage.

He won several major competitions and awards, including the International Competition for Music Performers in Geneva, and others in New York, Prague, and Tokyo. 2002 brought him a Grammy for Best Instrumental soloist with Orchestra for his recording of Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto with Daniel Barenboim and the Chicago Symphony.

In October 2018, Klein was appointed principal oboe of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Klein plays on an F. Lorée Royal oboe made to his specifications by the Maison Lorée in Paris.
