Chris Alfonso (Miami, FL) is a Cuban-American tenor and pianist. Alfonso received his M.M. in Opera Performance from the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland, where he studied with Gran Wilson. Alfonso is a Tyler Young Artist with Opera on the James, where in the fall season he played the role of Goro and studied the role of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and during the spring season is performing the role of Tamino in a touring outreach production of The Magic Flute, among other engagements. He was recently seen as a Studio Artist with Opera Neo in recital and in their mainstage productions (Armida, L’elisir d’amore), as a Choral Fellow with Spoleto Festival USA, and as a performing cover with Opera Baltimore. Alfonso has also recently performed the roles of Mayor Upfold (Albert Herring), Fenton (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Ferrando, Don Ottavio; Rodolfo and Edgardo in partial roles; and Santa Anna (Orgullo) in his Off-Broadway debut at The Public Theater.
