Act I: Synopsis
Aurora’s Sweet Sixteen in the Palace
The King and Queen have arranged a splendid sweet sixteen birthday party for their daughter, Princess Aurora. Good fairies and Aurora’s closest friends arrive for the party, but Aurora can’t help but feel that she’s forgotten to invite someone important. The dancing begins, but is soon interrupted by the evil fairy Carabosse! Carabosse is furious and insulted that she was not invited! Aurora and the good fairies beg for forgiveness, but the damage is done. Carabosse storms out of the party, and begins to concoct her evil plan. The party continues joyfully as planned with many groups of guests attending to celebrate. Each fairy presents a magical gift to bestow upon Aurora as they dance. As the party begins to wind down, a mysterious cloaked figure arrives. A curious Aurora greets the guest, as she offers Aurora a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Aurora dances with the flowers until she pricks her finger!Aurora begins to feel lightheaded and eventually faints. The cloaked figure reveals herself… Carabosse has returned! Carabosse’s minions surround her as she explains that she has cursed Aurora with the flower thorn. With her dancing she says, “Aurora has pricked her finger… and died!” The Lilac Fairy interrupts and overpowers Carabosse’s curse. She says, “No, Aurora has pricked her finger, and will sleep”. The Lilac Fairy casts a spell over the castle and all inside. When the princess awakens, they will awaken with her. Aurora’s one true Prom Date must break the spell, by “Prom-Posing”!
