HsuanYu Sunny Lin
Double Bass

Taiwanese bassist HsuanYu has spent nine years studying and performing in the US. Due to her talent and enthusiasm, she has received scholarships from many colleges, including Louisiana State University (LSU), NEC, SFCM, and Mannes School of Music. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) at LSU under Professor Yung-Chiao Wei.

Her musical education began at the Interlochen Arts Academy, where she received the Young Artist Award. She then completed her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at Mannes School of Music, studying with Max Zeugner and Orin O’Brien. During her time at Mannes, she was a finalist in the school’s concerto competition and received the Homer and Constance Mensch Excellence Bassist Award while graduating. 

HsuanYu has performed as a rotating principal bassist with the LSU Symphony Orchestra and LSU Symphonic Winds and as a substitute principal bassist for the Miaoli Chinese Orchestra. She has also played with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra and Mannes Orchestra, holding both principal and solo positions. 

Notable performance highlights include appearances at Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall, and the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. She has collaborated with the Martha Graham Dance Company and performed in productions such as the Met Opera’s Akhnaten and Phillip Glass’ The Fog of War.

Along with her bass playing, HsuanYu is also a talented pianist and cellist who has taken first place in piano quintet competitions. With her wide range of musical experience and dedication to performance, HsuanYu is eager to connect with audiences and take upcoming performance opportunities.
