A native of Long Island, New York, Josh Corwin has played viola since the age of eight. He began his studies in the public school setting and with local private teachers, then continued at the pre-college division of the Mannes School of Music in New York City during his high school years, and would eventually move on to the college of SUNY Fredonia in Western New York to study with David Rose, under whom his most formative training took place. The Fredonia community allowed him to explore multiple areas of interest, and he graduated in May of 2022 with undergraduate degrees in both viola performance and physics. Having practiced piano as well as viola from a young age, he also had the chance to study jazz piano at times with Dr. Nick Weiser, and has played in curricular jazz bands at Fredonia as a pianist. Josh continued his musical studies as an MM student and graduate teaching assistant at the University of Delaware, where he studied with Elias Goldstein and was able to play professionally in a variety of settings while completing his degree. After finishing his master's, Josh moved to Buffalo, NY to work as a lab technician, training to repair flexible endoscopes used in diagnostic hospital procedures. Josh continues to play professionally in Buffalo while also working full time, and strives to expand both the technological and performing aspects of his career.
