Baritone Jared Werlein, from the Bay Area, California, will be returning to The Juilliard School this year for his Master’s degree after recently graduating with his Bachelor of Music degree. This summer, Mr. Werlein performed the role of Leporello in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory. He also recently performed the role of Nanni in “L’infedelta Delusa” by Haydn for Juilliard’s 2021-22 season. Looking further back, Mr. Werlein has performed the role of Peter Quince in Britten's “A Midsummer Night's Dream” as well as Bellomy in “The Fantasticks” by Harvey Schmidt, both of which were during the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory’s 2019 season. He has performed in the chorus for multiple operas, including Richard Wagner’s “Der fliegende Holländer” with the Livermore Valley Opera, and in Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory. He won second place in the Schmidt Vocal Competition, and is a National YoungArts Foundation winner.
