Violinist John Heo has won numerous competitions including Highland Park Music Club Scholarship Competition (winner - 2019), American Opera Society Competition (winner - 2019), Blount Slawson Concerto Competition (2nd - 2019), Depaul Concerto Competition (winner - 2018), Kishwaukee Concerto Competition (1st - 2019, 2nd - 2018), Chippewa Competition (2nd - 2018), Dupage Competition (2nd - 2018), Fox Valley Competition (2nd - 2018), Walgreens National Competition Senior Open Division (Honorable mention - 2017), Sejong Music Competition (3rd - 2017, Honorable mention - 2015). John appeared as a soloist with the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra, Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, and Ottawa Chamber Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, John was invited as a solo guest at the Irish Spring Music Concert. John began his studies at the age of eight at the Betty Haag Academy and later studied with Almita Vamos at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy. His previous teachers include Cornelius Chiu and Jackie Fischer. John received his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where he studied with Mauricio Fuks and was the recipient of the Barbara and David Jacobs Scholarship. He will continue his music education at Jacobs to pursue a Master’s degree under the guidance of Kyung Sun Lee.

John is the recipient of The Marilyn G. Levinson and Nathan Gottschalk Scholarship, The Elmer G. Molyneaux Scholarship, and The Reed Family Scholarship.
