A native of South Korea, HaEun Yang started her music studies at the age of five. Throughout her musical journey, she has achieved top prizes in numerous competitions. Her most recent recognitions include the American Protégé International Piano and String Competition, the Kuleshov International Piano Competition where she received both second prize and the Kuleshov award for musicianship, the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition (MTNA), and the Southern Illinois Young Artist Organization (SIYAO). She is currently teaching as a full-time Secondary Piano teaching assistant to Eastman and University of Rochester students, and also serves as a teaching assistant in Professor Alan Chow’s studio. Recently, she was awarded the 2022-2023 Teaching Assistant Prize for Excellence in Teaching for Applied Instruction. She received Bachelor and Master or Music degrees in piano performance at Missouri State University as a full-tuition scholarship recipient, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Hye-Jung Hong. She also pursued graduate studies at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, working with Mrs. Nancy Weems. Currently, HaEun is pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature under the guidance of Professor Alan Chow at the Eastman School of Music.
HaEun is the recipient of the Chautauqua Women's Club Ann and Bob Fletcher Scholarship and the Ruth M. Skinner Hutchins Scholarship Fund.
