Juliet Swaim has been playing the violin since the age of 7. She recently completed her first year at Furman University, where she is majoring in Violin Performance under the instruction of Professor Simon Gollo, as well as pursuing a second major in French. Her past private teachers include Dr. William Terwilliger, Dr. Samara Humbert-Hughes, and Julia Long.

At Furman, she was the winner of the Symphony Orchestra’s 2023 Concerto Competition with Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen. In high school, she was a member of the South Carolina Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and was concertmaster her senior year. She also won the orchestra’s concerto competition, as well as the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition, with the Sibelius Violin Concerto in 2023. In addition, she won first place in the strings division of the Columbia Music Club Scholarship Competition in 2022 and 2023.

In the summer of 2022, she attended the Brevard Music Center Summer Orchestral Institute, where she studied with Corinne Stillwell and was the concertmaster for the orchestra’s performance of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8. In the summer of 2023, she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, where she studied with Caroline Pliszka and sat as principal second violin for one of the orchestra’s performances.

She also enjoys chamber music and is a member of Furman's Hartness Honors String Quartet, which is one of two scholarship quartets.

After she completes her undergraduate education, Juliet plans to pursue violin performance at the graduate level. Her career goals include playing professionally in both an orchestral and chamber setting, as well as teaching.
