Maggie Slap began playing cello when she was 4 years old. She made her solo debut with orchestra at the age of 13 as a winner of the 2018 Young Musicians Concerto Competition with the Hamden Symphony Orchestra. Maggie’s success continued when she was selected as a finalist of the 2020 Hartford Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, first prize winner of the 2020 Hartford Musical Club High School Strings Competition, and soloist with the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra in 2021. More recently, she performed in a masterclass with cellist Joseph Johnson. Passionate about chamber music as well as solo performance, she was a member of the 16 Strings quartet throughout high school, earning victory in the 2019 Honors Chamber Music Competition at the Hartt School Community Division and participating in masterclasses with the Lionsgate Trio and James Dunham. She is also an alumna of Greenwood Music Camp and Bowdoin International Music Festival. This summer, she will be attending the Chautauqua Institution. Maggie currently studies cello performance with David Ying at the Eastman School of Music, where she served as a principal cellist of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra.
