Sebastian Petzinger, from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is pursuing a degree in trumpet performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying with John Rommel. Prior to his arrival in Bloomington, Petzinger attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor's degree in trumpet performance with a minor in jazz studies. He also received the Ohio University Undergraduate Achievement Award in Performance. At the Jacobs School, he has held principal trumpet positions in the top orchestras and played lead trumpet in the Brent Wallarab Jazz Ensemble, Jacobs’ premier jazz ensemble. In addition to playing Principal Trumpet in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Petzinger is also Third Trumpet in the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. Petzinger has maintained a strong passion for solo performance. He has presented solo recitals each year of his undergraduate studies. In 2024, Petzinger won the Indiana University brass concerto competition and performed Eino Tamberg’s Trumpet Concerto with the University Orchestra. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Ohio University Wind Symphony and Charleston Chamber Orchestra as well as in the National Trumpet Competition.
