Arika Morningstar is a guitarist and student composer from the Hopi Nation in Hopi, Arizona.
"Silent Rain" was composed as part of the Native American Composer Apprentice Project (NACAP), an intensive music composition immersion program in which Native American composers tutor Native students on the Navajo, Hopi, & Salt River Pima-Maricopa Reservations in all aspects of composition from inspiration to notation. Arika Morningstar writes, "This song I wrote in the 8th grade with a composer named Michael Begay. It is a mixture of Japanese and Hopi rhythms and the beats of the drums on my Hopi side. I hope you enjoy this piece I wrote with my heart."
