I.Molto Allegro
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. Although he only lived to the age of thirty-five, Mozart was one of the most pivotal composers in the Classical era. His Symphony No. 40 is one of his only symphonies in minor, and it was his penultimate symphony overall. The first movement is composed in sonata form, including an exposition, development, and recapitulation. It opens by expressing agitation and urgency, reflecting the increasing difficulties he was experiencing in his own life. The second theme presented is more austere and chromatic in nature. These themes appear throughout the first movements in varying intensities and instruments.
