Praised for his “finesse and precision” (Concert Review, NYC), cellist Hun Choi has captivated audiences with his artistry and expressive performances. He made his U.S. solo debut with the Penn Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Thomas Hong in 2022, performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. In the 2023–24 season, he toured North America as a Curtis on Tour artist alongside Maestro Osmo Vänskä and violinist Erin Keefe.
Mr. Choi has graced prestigious stages worldwide, including 92nd Street Y (New York), Kimmel Center (Philadelphia), Jordan Hall (Boston), Raymond F. Kravis Center (Florida), Kumho Art Hall, and Daejeon Arts Center (South Korea). He was also invited to perform at the 9th Korean American Day at Philadelphia City Hall. As a soloist, he has appeared with the PyeongChang Festival Orchestra, Namyangju Symphony Orchestra, and Yewon Orchestra.
A decorated competitor, Mr. Choi won First Prize at the Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition (2015) and the PyeongChang Music Festival Concerto Competition (2018). He was also a prizewinner at the Morningside Music Bridge Concerto Competition (2019) and a semifinalist in the 2023 YCA Susan Wadsworth International Auditions. His competition experience includes the Prague Spring International Music Competition (2018) and the ISANGYUN Competition (2022).
He has been invited to prestigious festivals such as the PyeongChang Music Festival & School, Morningside Music Bridge, Seoul Arts Center Music Academy, and the Heifetz International Music Institute, where he was a String Scholar Fellow.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Mr. Choi earned his Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he is currently pursuing his Master’s degree under Peter Wiley and Gary Hoffman. His previous mentors include Carter Brey and Myung-Wha Chung.
