Hailed an “exquisitely subtle pianist” by The New York Times, Iris Hsu is a prizewinner of the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, as well as the Baltimore Music Club, Pacific Musical Society, and Ross McKee Competitions. She made her solo recital debut at the age of twelve, playing an all-Chopin program including the Second Piano Concerto with the Palo Alto Philharmonic at the Mountain View Performing Arts Center in Mountain View, California. As an active solo and chamber musician, she has since appeared as soloist with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra and given performances throughout the United States, Canada, Holland, Italy, and Spain.

Ms. Hsu has performed in master classes with numerous renowned artists including Leon Fleisher, Boris Berman, Ann Schein, Menahem Pressler, Roy Howat, Leslie Howard, Jura Margulis, and Victor Rosenbaum.

In past summers, she had the opportunity to work with Robert McDonald, Julian Martin, Mikhail Voskresensky, Mack McCray, Angela Cheng, Alvin Chow, and Marc Durand at the International Holland Music Sessions, Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival, Banff Centre Piano Master Class Program, Millennium International Piano Festival, and Boston University Tanglewood Institute. She is a scholarship recipient of the Mack McCray Foundation, Lime Kiln Foundation, and Bay Area Steinway Society.

Ms. Hsu was born in New York and began her piano studies when she was three years old, studying primarily with Li-shan Hung in Mountain View, California. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Boris Slutsky. Subsequently, she received her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Matti Raekallio and was awarded a teaching fellowship to serve as faculty in the piano minor department. She is continuing her studies at Peabody with Boris Slutsky as a candidate in the Doctor of Musical Arts program in piano performance, and currently resides in Boston, where she teaches privately and serves as a staff pianist at the New England Conservatory of Music.
