Julia Angelov is an American-born Bulgarian-Japanese violinist. At age 14, she was invited by the Vladimir Spivakov Foundation to perform at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, which was noted by the national Japanese broadcasting company, NHK, as being an “extraordinary performance.” She has subsequently returned to Russia for solo and concerto appearances in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Through her success in Russia, she has been invited to perform in the Celebration of the National Day at the Russian Consulate General in New York City, and in 2018, was the featured performer of a Private Salon at the Russian Culture Centre in Washington DC for violinist Maxim Vengerov, hosted by the Ambassador Anatoly Antonov and Washington Performing Arts.

Angelov has appeared as a soloist with numerous American orchestras including the National Philharmonic at Strathmore, the U.S. Army Band Orchestra, and the Arlington Philharmonic. Abroad, she has performed with the Eurasia Chamber Orchestra in Germany, and the Kaluga Symphony Orchestra and Kostroma State Symphony Orchestra in Russia. She has performed solo works at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, and Merkin Concert Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York. In her native Washington DC, she has performed at the National Gallery of Art, the Washington National Cathedral, and at numerous diplomatic embassies. She had the honor of performing at a gala celebrating the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the following season, performed a solo recital at the Embassy of Bulgaria, presented by Embassy Series. In the spring of 2022, she had a recital debut at the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, presented by Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York (BCENY), sponsored by the St. Cyril and St. Methodius International Foundation.

Angelov has been awarded the Milka Violin Prize at the Pablo Casals Festival, Verao Classico Award, an Amadeus Concerts Emerging Artists award, and honored by the National Society of Arts and Letters. Competitions won include the Music Teachers National Association’s (MTNA) National Strings Competition, and Grand Prize at the Hennings-Fischer Young Artists Competition, among others. She was semifinalist of the 2020 Young Concert Artists (YCA) International Auditions and 2021 Windsor International Strings Competition. From 2015 to 2019, she had the honor of being the Milka Violin Scholar by the Markow Totevy Foundation at the National  Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Youth Fellowship Program of the John F. Kennedy Center.

Angelov’s summers are spent participating and performing at festivals. She has attended the Heifetz International Music Institute, Kronberg Academy Masterclasses, IMS Prussia Cove, Carl Flesch Akademie, Erben Music Festival, Verao Classico Academy, Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, and Vladimir Spivakov Foundation’s “Moscow Meets Friends” Festival. She has also performed in masterclasses with Hillary Hahn, Julia Fischer, James Ehnes, Arabella Steinbacher, and KirillTroussov.

Angelov began studying with Aaron Rosand at age 12, the same year she was accepted into the NSO Youth Fellowship Program as one of their youngest fellows. Through the fellowship, she had the opportunity to be mentored by NSO Concertmaster, Nurit Bar-Josef. She continues her studies with Robert Lipsett at the Colburn Conservatory, where she is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music. Angelov performs on a violin by Andrea Guarneri, on loan from Florian Leonhard Fine Violins – New York.
